Your Rights Under CCPA
As a California resident, you have the following rights regarding your personal information under the CCPA and CPRA.
You have the right to know what personal information we collect about you, where we collected it from, why we use it, and who we share it with. You have the right to delete personal information we have collected from you, with some exceptions allowed by law such as information we need to complete transactions or comply with legal obligations. You have the right to correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you. You have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information to third parties. You have the right to limit the use and disclosure of your sensitive personal information, such as financial account information or precise geolocation data. You have the right to non-discrimination, meaning we cannot treat you differently or charge you more for exercising any of these rights.
What Does "Selling" or "Sharing" Information Mean?
Under California law, the terms "selling" and "sharing" have broader meanings than most people expect, so it is important to understand what they cover.
Selling personal information means disclosing or transferring your data to another business or third party in exchange for money or any other valuable consideration. This includes traditional data sales but also extends to arrangements where we receive services, analytics, or other benefits in return for sharing your information.
Sharing personal information specifically refers to disclosing your data to third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising, which is advertising targeted to you based on your activity across different websites, apps, or online services. Sharing counts as covered activity even when no money changes hands, which means common tools like Facebook Pixel, Google Ads remarketing, and third-party analytics platforms can fall under this category.
At Mazadastore, we do not sell your personal information in the traditional sense. However, if we use any advertising or analytics tools that transfer your information to third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising, that activity may qualify as "sharing" under California law, and you have the right to opt out of it.
Opt-Out Request for Personal Information Sharing
To opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, please send an email to contact@mazadastore.com with the following information.
In the subject line, write "CCPA Opt-Out Request" so our team can identify and prioritize your request immediately. In the body of the email, include your full name, the email address associated with any account or purchase you have made with us, your mailing address, and the state where you reside (to confirm you are a California resident). You do not need to provide a reason for your request, as California law does not require one.
Once we receive your email, we will confirm receipt within two business days and process your opt-out request as described below. We currently accept opt-out requests by email only. If you prefer to submit your request by mail, you may send it to the business address listed at the bottom of this page, though email will result in a faster response.
Verification Process and Response Time
Before we can process your opt-out request, we need to reasonably verify that the request is being made by you or by someone authorized to act on your behalf. This is a standard requirement under California law designed to protect your personal information from being accessed or altered by someone else.
Our verification process is kept as simple as possible. For most opt-out requests, we verify by matching the email address and name provided in your request with the information already in our records from your previous interactions or purchases. If we cannot verify you from basic information alone, we may ask for one or two additional details to confirm your identity, such as the approximate date of a past order or the last four digits of a previous purchase confirmation.
Once we verify your identity, we will process your opt-out request within 15 business days as required by California law. For right-to-know, right-to-delete, and right-to-correct requests, we may take up to 45 calendar days, with a possible extension of another 45 days if the request is complex. We will always communicate the expected timeline once we have received and reviewed your request.
If we are unable to verify your identity even after requesting additional information, we will notify you and explain why. In that case, we may not be able to process certain requests, but this does not prevent you from submitting a new request later with additional verification.
Right to Non-Discrimination
California law protects you from being penalized for exercising your privacy rights. Mazadastore will not discriminate against you in any way for submitting a Do Not Sell or Share request or any other CCPA request.
This means we will not deny you access to our website or products, charge you a different price for the same books, provide you a lower quality of service, or suggest that you will receive a different level of service because you exercised your privacy rights. You will continue to have the exact same shopping experience on our website and receive the same level of customer support whether or not you submit a privacy request.
Authorized Agents
You may designate another person or entity to submit a CCPA request on your behalf. If someone is acting as your authorized agent, they must provide signed written permission from you confirming their authority, and we may contact you directly to verify that you have indeed authorized them to act on your behalf.
Important Notes
A few important points to keep in mind when submitting a request.
California law only protects California residents, so you must reside in California to exercise these rights. If you live in another state with its own privacy law, you may have different rights under that state's law, and we will evaluate your request under the applicable law.
Opting out of the sale or sharing of your personal information does not stop us from using your information for essential business purposes such as processing your orders, providing customer support, preventing fraud, complying with legal obligations, or communicating with you about your orders. These uses are necessary to operate our store and provide you with the products and services you have purchased.
If you opt out and later place a new order or create a new account, we may need to ask you to submit a new opt-out request, because placing a new order may involve new data collection and processing. We will let you know at the time if a new request is needed.
Your opt-out preference applies going forward from the date we process your request. We cannot reverse sharing that happened before your opt-out was in place, but we can ensure no further sharing occurs from the effective date of your request.
If you have an account on our website, exercising your opt-out rights does not automatically delete your account. If you want to delete your account entirely, please submit a separate right-to-delete request.
